So Far, So Good: January

With the launch of a personal blog, I wanted to write about what I’m learning and loving every once in a while. This will be a compilation of lessons and the things I’m enjoying each month (food, music, etc.) I hope it inspires you! I’m calling it “So Far, So Good” because I think it encapsulates perfectly the balance between having it all together and being a mess!

Lesson #1: Treat Yo’Self.

I’ve been focusing on doing small things that make me happy and lead to less stress. For example, I bought myself tickets to La La Land at the beginning of the month and went to the theatre so I could watch a movie I really wanted to see. I bought that adorable flower bouquet at the store because I could, and didn’t feel bad taking a fifteen-minute break in between studying if it meant I’d be happier.

Lesson #2: When Lonely, Reach Out!

This month I did a lot of personal work. I spent a solid few hours just thinking about what I am struggling with and thinking of ways to fix it. I realized that my recent transition into single-ness had me feeling lonely at times and, quite frankly, pathetic. So, I called up a few friends and planned some time to hang out. I talked to several people this month and worked more on being available to do fun things with lovely people.

Lesson #3: Less Procrastination, Less Stress

I don’t know about you but I seem to wait until last minute to do just about everything important. It’s an awful habit and I want to kick it, so this month I started taking steps to change my habits. I spent less time on the internet when I could have been doing something productive and decided it was time to limit my pointless Facebook scrolling. I have a LONG way to go with this one, but have been celebrating the small victories!

And finally – what I’m LOVING this month:

  • Music
    • Ed Sheeran and John Mayer both released new music this month, and naturally, both did an incredible job. I’ve been playing both these guys’ music a lot this last half of the month.
    • The La La Land soundtrack took over my life for a couple weeks this month. I mean, how could you not love this score? Ahh, so good!
  • Products
    • I recently bought the L’Oreal Charcoal Detox Mask out of boredom, and I have to say, I like it! I don’t usually do face masks but this one makes my skin feel good and smells pretty great. (I just have to be careful about getting it stuck in my hair without realizing. Lol.)
    • Flowers! Duh! I bought flowers for myself, as I mentioned above. They brightened my workspace and made me happy to be doing schoolwork again! Highly recommend it.
    • I started a bullet journal this month, and it’s been quite the journey. I haven’t kept up with it as well as I want to, but you’ve gotta start somewhere, right?
  • Movies
    • I spent a lot more time in movie theaters this month than normal. It was wonderful because I have always loved seeing movies but have not taken time to go see any! I saw several this month, but narrowed them down to three favs:
      • Collateral Beaty: This movie dealt with an intense subject, but handled it beautifully. Edward Norton’s character shone in the film, as he was perfectly funny and relatable in many ways. I saw this with a friend, and we both agree it’s the kind of movie you bring tissues to.
      • Hacksaw Ridge: I wasn’t sure how I would enjoy the story of Hacksaw Ridge, but I knew I would enjoy the movie since Andrew Garfield is in it. I ended up really enjoying the story behind the film but enjoyed the acting a lot. Andrew and Teresa Palmer had great chemistry in the love story aspect, and Andrew, of course, rocked it in the rest of the movie.
      • La La Land: Saving the best for last, but WOW. This movie rocked my world! I was a bit skeptical to go see this one at first and I’m so happy I went anyway. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were brilliant, and I think the storyline was told in a breathtaking way. I was impressed that Emma and Ryan learned how to dance and sing for the film, and I think everyone involved in production worked very hard to make the story flow just right. Go see this one if you haven’t, you won’t be sorry. The colors and music alone will sweep you off your feet.

That’s all, folks. I am looking forward to more Learning & Loving segments. Did you enjoy this? What do you want to see more of on this blog? Let me know in the comments!
